About Jadavpur University, Kolkata
On December 24, 1955, the West Bengal Government, with the collaboration of the Government of India, passed the legislation required for the establishment of Jadavpur University. The campus covers an area of 88 acres. According to the NIRF Ranking for university category, 2021, Jadavpur University is ranked eighth. According to the NIRF Rankings 2021, the university is ranked 17th in the research category and 14th overall. JU Kolkata has established itself as one of the best universities in the country. It provides a wide range of courses, with faculty members dedicated to advanced study and research.
The National Council of Education was founded thanks to the generous donations. Raja Subodh Chandra Mallik, Brojendra Kishore Roy Choudhary, Maharaja Suryyo Kanto Acharya Choudhury, and Sir Rashbehari Ghosh were among the major donors. Sri Aurobindo was the first principal of the Bengal National College. Rabindranath Tagore also taught at the Bengal National College. Jadavpur University offers a wide range of courses in the arts, sciences, engineering, and technology. The University has UGC recognition and AICTE approval (All India Council of Technical Education).

Jadavpur University Infrastructure and Facilities
Jadavpur University is located on 96.5 acres of land on Raja SC Mullik Road in Bidhanagar, Kolkata. The University’s infrastructure is excellent. Gandhi Bhavan Auditorium, Open Air Theatre, Subarna Jayanti Bhavan, Toilets, Guest House, and Ramp for Specially Abled Students are among the facilities available at JU Kolkata. A Sports Centre, Technology Bhavan, Electrical Revamping, drinking and water tanks, Guest House, Library, Day Care Centre, and Health Centre are among the Jadavpur University Facilities.
Within the University campus, there are separate hostels for girls and boys. There are 9 boys hostels and 4 girls hostels among the 13 hostels. It can accommodate up to 1600 students in total. Jadavpur University has a Guest House for those who come from out of town to visit students. A central library, a digital library, and departmental libraries are available on the University campus. The central library has seating for 700 readers. The Day Care Facility has been organised by Jadavpur University in collaboration with the ‘Mamta’ organisation. The Day Care Centre meets the need of parents to care for their children while they participate in University activities. The facility is available to research scholars, regular full-time students, and other University staff. On the campus of Jadavpur University, there is a Healthcare Centre. A medical superintendent, part-time qualified specialists, and a part-time lady doctor supervise the centre.

Students who apply through the GATE score get 70% weightage. While students who apply through B.E./B.Tech. the score gets 50% weightage. The rest weightage is determined by tests. 10% weightage is given to students possessing industry experience as they are sponsored by the industry. |

Jadavpur University Scholarship
Jadavpur University is a public university in India. Fees are kept to a minimum. Meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds are eligible for JU Kolkata scholarships and fee reductions. A student enrolled in the University must have a family income of Rs. 250,000 or less to qualify for fee concession. Swami Vivekananda Merit and Means Scholarships are also available to deserving students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Undergraduate students receive financial assistance ranging from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 5000, postgraduate students receive financial assistance ranging from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 5000, and Kanyashree applicants receive financial assistance ranging from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 2500 through the SVMM Scholarship.
