The Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar (or IIT Ropar) was established in 2008 by the Ministry of Human Resource Department of the Government of India to enhance the reach of quality technical education in the country. In the NIRF Rankings 2021, the college was ranked 19th in engineering and 49th in research. The Government of India has designated the college as a “Institute of National Importance.” The institute’s campus is 500 acres in size, and it has 158 faculty members in total.

The college provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in a variety of specialisations, as well as a five-year integrated dual degree programme. The institute offers 46 courses in all. IIT Ropar also works closely with national and foreign institutions, including Aston University in the United Kingdom, Imperial College in London, Simon Fraser University in Canada, and the University of Glasgow in Scotland. Location of IIT Ropar

The college is located in the Punjab town of Ropar (also known as Rupnagar). Rupnagar Old Bus Stand in Chotta Khera is around 8 kilometres from the university. The nearest railway station is Rupnagar Railway Station, which is roughly 2 kilometres away from the institute. Clubs, Committees, and Societies at IIT Ropar

The Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar promotes a well-rounded education by encouraging several organisations and committees for extra-curricular activities and overall student development. The many IIT Ropar clubs and committees are listed below.

BOST: BOST is an umbrella Science and Technology club that includes several branches such as the robotics club, the aeromodelling club, the coding club, the software community, the financial community, the zenith community, the CIM club, the monochrome club, and the automobile club.

Dance Group: A prominent club at IIT Ropar, it is full of enthusiastic students who perform various dance styles and assist in the organisation of numerous cultural festivals conducted throughout the country.

Music Club: The Music Club is IIT Ropar’s most active club. These clubs host events ranging from soft classical raagas to acid rock, such as ‘SAAZ- Solo Singing,’ ‘SUR-Duet Singing,’ ‘TORQUE-Rock Band,’ ‘SYMPHONY-Western Instrumental,’ and ‘RAAG-Indian Instrumental.’

Rangoli, lighting, blind art, magic, and sketching are all part of the Fine Arts Club.

The Gymnasium Club is suitable for sports enthusiasts. They organise and host numerous cultural festival activities such as the Inter-IIT sports trophy and the TITAN strong man competition.

Scholarships at IIT and Ropar
